MFIT has no personalization options on their website, but I think that the nature of MFIT really lends itself to that kind of usage.
If they were to add a feature that allows users to sign in for sessions, I think it would be great to allow them to choose items to add to a personal virtual collection. This feature could even have a visual element to it, as if users are actually adding garments to racks, where they can slide them along on hangers to choose any one item. Once they've opened the record for an item, they could add comments that would be visible to other users (to promote community). I think it would also be helpful to have a feature in which users could add comments or reviews of exhibitions.
In my opinion, the goal would be to promote more substabtial conversation, as opposed to the fairly shallow nature of the interactions on facebook and twitter. They seem to be in the perfect position to push their users in that direction. They already have a very solid base of followers; people are definitely interested and willing to participate.
Another way to add depth to the website would be to have interviews or video clips of artists talking about their creative process, which could be linked to individual item records. Textual links would also be beneficial - simply viewing a garment does not constitute an educational experience. Scholarly articles related to topics evidenced in particular garments should be linked to item records.
QR codes on each garment in the museum could facilitate this activity. When the user scans the code, it would bring them to the individual record, where they would participate in conversation, add garments to their personal collection, be directed to similar items, or linked out to related scholarly articles.
