Thomas Tunsch is an archaeologist graduated from the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg↑. Since 1990 he is curator at the Islamic museum↑ in Berlin and since 1997 consultant in the department for information and communication technology of the National Museums in Berlin↑ as well. Researching international standards in data modeling and museum documentation on one side and the practical experience of curatorial tasks as a scholar in the Islamic museum on the other hand provides him with different views of museum necessities. From the very beginning of his studies of Oriental archaeology, he was always interested in making connections to other fields of interest as well and acquiring a more comprehensive understanding. He sees museums as important social institutions which make history accessible to the public.

Thomas Tunsch ist Orientarchäologe und Kustos am Museum für Islamische Kunst (Berlin)↑ in Berlin. Seit 1997 arbeitet er außerdem als Fachreferent in der Abteilung Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik der Generaldirektion der Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin↑. Die Beschäftigung mit Museumsdokumentation im Zeitalter moderner Informationstechnik und die Erfahrungen als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in einer Sammlung gestatten ihm unterschiedliche Sichten auf die Anforderungen der Museumsarbeit. Seit seinem Studium der Orientarchäologie war er immer an Verbindungen zu anderen Wissensgebieten interessiert und um ein möglichst umfassendes Verständnis wissenschaftlicher Fragestellungen bemüht. Seiner Ansicht nach sind Museen wichtige gesellschaftliche Institutionen, die Geschichte für die Öffentlichkeit erschließen helfen.
